Hey,

I graduated in 2008, nice to finally see version control stuff. I would highly suggest everyone go to that.
Also, you can use it for your CS projects and assignments and it will keep you from making huge mistakes and not being able to revert back.

Perforce is also free for small groups and has a neat UI.
I use hg (aka Mercurial) at my work, but it sucks =).
I also have heard good things about Team Foundation Server from Visual Studio for those of you who like to work in Visual Studio.

Hello Everyone,

This Saturday, November 2, there will be a LAN Party from 6:00 p.m. - 12:00
a.m. in the Darwin Basement.  This LAN Party will feature a Super Smash
Brothers Tournament, with a prize for the winner!  There will be a $5.00
fee at the door.  There will also be pizza and soda.

On Saturday, November 16, there will be a Git/Version Control Workshop at
4:00 p.m. in Darwin 25.  It is highly recommended to attend this workshop
and learn how to use a form of version control, as this is widely used in
the programming industry.

The clubs of the School of Science and Technology are planning a trip to
the SRJC Planetarium on December 5.  Let us know if you are interested in
attending this event!

WICS is inviting members of the CS Club to join them on a tour of Twilio, a
company that specializes in communications, i.e. VoIP, embedding messaging
software, etc.  This trip will be on Friday, November 8, with the caravan
leaving SSU around 9:00 a.m.  Please let us know if you are interested in
attending.  Seating is limited.  Business attire is required.

[Cs-club-l] CS Club Meeting Notes and LAN Party this Saturday, Oct. 5

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to everyone who attended last week's Poker Night!  It was a great success!

This coming Saturday, Oct. 5, is the next LAN Party and Board Game Night!  It will be held in the Darwin Basement from 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 midnight.  There will be a $5.00 fee at the door for pizza and soda.  Please bring any board games that you would like to share with the crowd.

Mare Island Tech Academy in Vallejo is looking for anyone interested in being a Workshop Instructor.  This will be held on Saturday, October 12, from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.  The list of workshops include:

     Free web-based Math Games for students*
     Intro to Robotics*
     MindCraft Virtual Reality programming*
     SIMPLE programming*
     Game Design using Scratch programming*
     Web design using WordPress*
     GoogleDocs – The New Wave in Office Productivity*
     Intro to Photoshop*

This is a paid position for the day, $141, with a commitment of working 2 workshops, 75 minutes each, and includes prep time.  If you are interested, contact Andrea Walker at awynnwalker@sbcglobal.net for more information.

On October 18, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., the CS Club will be holding a workshop open to the entire campus.  This workshop will provide the SSU student body an opportunity to bring their computer-related questions to us and to pass out our computer-related advice.  Due to liability reasons, we are not allowed to actually repair the computers.

The CS Club has CS Club T-Shirts available for $15.00. 

The School of Science and Technology clubs are planning a trip to the Planetarium.  The tentative date is December 5.  Please see a CS Club Officer at the end of the meetings if you want to sign up for the trip.

Dr. Ledin is planning a CS Alumni Dinner for November 17.  Please send him any material that you would like to share for the dinner's entertainment, be it jokes, pictures, stories, etc.

The next meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, October 8.
